Two stop-motion shorts won craft prizes at the 50th Ottawa International Animation Festival, whose full winners list was published on September 26. Henri Veermäe's Uka-uka, a debut stop-motion film from Estonia's Grafik Animation Studio that had already won an Annecy prize, took Best Script. Mamuka Tkeshelashvili's When the Sea was Calm, a Georgian puppet and cutout short from Animatory set on the eve of the 1992 Abkhazia war, won the Animation Guild Craft Award for Best Design. In the festival's '50 in 50' poll of favourite Canadian shorts, audiences chose Terril Calder's 2021 NFB stop-motion film Meneath: The Hidden Island of Ethics. Uka-uka and Meneath are new to the catalogue with director, producer and NFB crew credits.
